Shawshank Redemption was filmed in Mansfield, OH at the Ohio State Reformatory. The Reformatory opened in 1896 and closed in 1990. Over 155,000 prisoners were housed at the Reformatory. It has been featured on multiple paranormal shows including, Scariest Places on Earth. In a short 15 minute drive, you could possibly experience one of the scariest places Ohio has to offer!
